The “Better Opportunities for Young Scientists in Chosen Areas of Science and Technology (BOYSCAST)” programme of the department of science and technology (DST) provides opportunities to young Indian scientists/technologists to interact with scientists/technologists at institutions abroad, get trained in the latest research techniques and conduct R&D in specially chosen frontline areas of science and technology for three to 12 months. Chosen areas of atmospheric and earth sciences/chemical sciences/ engineering sciences/ life sciences/ mathematical sciences and physical sciences. The fellowship amount is US $ 3000 (or equivalent in other foreign currency) per month with maximum duration of fellowship being 12 months.
Requirements: Master’s degree in engineering, technology or equivalent or MD in medicine or equivalent; age upto 35 years (as on April 1, 2009) (relaxed upto five years for SC/ ST/ OBC and women candidates). Applicant should hold a regular position on a recognized S&T institution/university/college and must be officially sponsored (their application to be formally forwarded) by the employer/head of the institution or agency with commitment to depute them for research/training under BOYSCAST programme.
