Advertising has four main disciplines – client servicing, account planning creative and media.
While client servicing executives mange relationship between the agency and the client, as well as ensure the delivery of the work on time, the creative department is responsible for the actual creation of the advertisement, based on the brief given by the client. Account planners are n charge of the strategic thinking and planning that goes into the creation of an advertisement, and the media department decides on the placement of the advertisement in the relevant media – TV, newspapers, outdoor, etc.

Graduate courses in advertising are available in many institutes. There is no entrance exam for entry into courses at the undergraduate level. A student with a minimum 50 % in their class-12 examinations can opt for the degree course. A course in advertising covers subjects such as advertising, branding, media planning market management, etc.
The graduate courses in advertising are for a period of three years.

For admission into the graduate courses one should have passed class 12 th standard however the admissions into Postgraduate courses require pass in thwe graduation.
Future Prospectus
:
Management trainees are recruited for the client servicing, account management and media planning functions. They could reach a mid- management position, as account directors or account planning directors, in around five to six years. A branch head position is possible after 12 years of work experience. Along with experience and seniority, the number of accounts handled and size of team supervised also grows, from handing a single account as a management trainee to managing three or four accounts as account director. Business development and revenue delivery are also part of an account director’s responsibility. Branch heads act as business mangers, responsible for profit and loss as well as people management.
The salary levels differ for different roles and can range form Rs 7,000 - 8,000 per month for a copy or art trainee to Rs. 1,00,000 plus per month for a creative director or client services director. Branch heads can earn Rs. 18 lakh up wards a year depending on the size of the agency.
